Community & Social Responsibility

ETG is committed to the principles of integrity, responsibility and accountability.

Integral to this philosophy is the development of communities which are historically disadvantaged whether through political, economic or naturally driven adversity. ETG believes in investing in the countries in which it operates. Capital investment into our own infrastructure (procurement or processing), farming and logistic operations is a key contributor to employment.

We also support the communities where we operate by setting up sustainable, livelihood-enhancing projects.
Since 2009, ETG has set up a small-holder micro-finance scheme which allows them to finance to the farmers whom they procure commodity from. Finance is extended in the form of input packs on credit which include the following products: seed, fertilizer, weather insurance and a contract with a guaranteed minimum-price off-take for all produce. At the ends of the season, the higher of the market price and minimum guaranteed price is paid by ETG to farmers for their produce, with deductions for input credit.

Such a structured lending program empowers small-holder farmers with credit, enabling them to increase their productivity, without encumbering them with upfront cash requirements to buy inputs. The first program was set up in September 2010 in Uganda and loans were given to 3000 farmers. ETG plans to scale up the program in the region.

ETG is committed to the economic enhancement of the areas within which it operates. We believe in the premise of the better off the community due to economic activity, the more likely our own markets and procurement opportunities are to be maintained.
